"Tree Planting" with CALFIRE and the City of Rancho Cucamonga - February 11
The City of Rancho Cucamonga joined forces with CALFIRE on a joint grant to plant 121 trees along the Pacific Electric Trail. A call for volunteers to help plant the Engelmann Oak and Columbian Sycamore trees along the trail was successful despite some rain. Some of the "Friends" came out to help plant trees along the P.E. Trail. Both types of trees are native to Southern California, grow quickly, and reach heights of 50 to 60 ft. The trees were planted along the P.E. Trail from the 15 Freeway to Grove and will provide shade for trail users.
"Day on the P.E. Trail" - January 14
The "Friends" schedule several "Day on the P.E. Trail" visits throughout the year to raise awareness of the completed trail, talk with trail users about trail etiquette and promote bike safety.
In January, we were joined by Shannon Edgmon of Cyclery USA Rancho Cucamonga whoprovided tech services for trail users by adjusting brakes, seat and handle bar height and promoted overall bike safety. Dennis and Vicky Jones passed out "Save the Date" fliers for the upcoming 7th annual Cucamonga Challenge and also passed out bottled water for trail users.
