Trail

The Pacific Electric Trail is a free, public access rail trail for walking, bicycle riding, and equestrian uses. As a rails-to-trails project, it consists of paved and gravel pathways. Located below the San Gabriel Mountains (which the trail has a pleasant view of), it spans 21 miles between Claremont and Rialto.

This trail is great for traveling, sight-seeing, recreation, and exercise! Part of this has been made possible through Healthy RC and Safe Routes to Schools. Additionally, its historic landmarks allow anyone to experience the rich history of the Pacific Electric Railway!

WHAT IS A RAIL TRAIL?
Rail trails are multi-purpose paths created from abandoned railroad corridors, although in some cases active rail lines may still exist. Flat or following a gentle grade, they are ideal for uses such as bicycling, walking, horseback riding, in-line skating, wheelchair recreation, and hiking.

There are over 13,150 miles of rail trails in 48 states within the United States. They are extremely popular as an alternative to cars by providing opportunities to walk or ride to work, school, shopping, and help stave off childhood obesity.
